chitin example - after

chitin after

The revised representation of chitin metabolism in the biological process ontology. Many nodes, such as "cuticle chitin metabolism" and "cuticle chitin biosynthesis," were added, and parent-child relationships reorganized, to distinguish chitin metabolism in the context of fungal cell wall biosynthesis from chitin metabolism involved in cuticle synthesis. Black arrows point from parent to child. Red arrows show the path from one node, "cuticle chitin biosynthesis," upwards by all possible paths. In this scheme, no path upwards from "cuticle chitin biosynthesis" leads to a node specific to the fungal cell wall.
