README ------ Directory: go/doc This directory contains a number of formatted metadata files that drive the GO website and associated software. Each metadata file should contain documentation in the header. The core files are: * GO.references - drives http://www.geneontology.org/cgi-bin/references.cgi * GO.curator_dbxrefs - metadata on ontology editors and curators * GO.xrf_abbs - drives http://www.geneontology.org/cgi-bin/xrefs.cgi documentation: GO.xrf_abbs_spec * biblio-data.txt - drives http://geneontology.org/cgi-bin/biblio.cgi Autogenerated: * GO.terms_alt_ids * GO.terms_and_ids * GO.terms_ids_obs * obsoletes-exact * obsoletes-inexact Deprecated: * GO.bib * GO.style_guide Editing doc files: The primary location of the metadata files are GO CVS, although this will later move to SVN. Anyone editing these files should have a basic understanding of CVS/SVN. The basic workflow is: cd doc cvs update # edit file cvs update cvs commit -m 'DESCRIBE YOUR CHANGES HERE' You should try and check in your changes as soon as possible - especially for the GO.references file, for which ID clashes are possible. For adding a ref to GO.references, increment the latest GO_REF number by 1.
